Pelmets and valances can be, quite literally, the crowning glory of a curtain arrangement. Positioned at the top of the window, they fit neatly over curtain headings, entirely concealing from sight any tracks or fitting mechanism. Pelmets are usually made of wood or a stiffening material such as buckram. Usually they are covered in fabric. Valences are made entirely of fabric which may be lined and interlined. Valences create a softer effect than pelmets. The heading can be, perhaps, a French pleat for tall elegant windows or a softer, gathered heading for less formal arrangements. Our staff will be happy to talk you through the various shapes and styles available, from the simple style pelmet, to the more flamboyant valances, complete with swags and tails! Our upholsterers will work with our seamstresses to make a pelmet to fit your window perfectly.
